This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our services, which include grading and evaluating student essays through our AI technology (the “Services”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring a safe online experience. This Privacy Policy applies to all products and services offered by Essay Eye LLC, including our websites, online platforms, and web browser extensions (collectively, our “Service”). Through our Service, we provide tools designed to enhance educational experiences, such as evaluating and grading essays, offering feedback, and supporting student growth.

1.1 A Note About Student Data
Essay Eye LLC’s services are intended for schools and school districts (collectively, “Schools”), as well as teachers, authorized school users, professors and instructors of higher education and technical institutions,  and administrators (collectively, “Educators”). When our Service is incorporated into a School’s educational curriculum, any personal data associated with students (“Students”) that is (i) provided to Essay Eye LLC by a School, or (ii) collected by Essay Eye LLC during the provision of the Service to a School, or Educator, may from time to time contain information defined as “educational records” under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”) or “covered information” under California’s Student Online Personal Information Protection Act (“SOPIPA”), as well as other information protected by similar student data privacy laws such as COPPA – The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act . This information is referred to as “Student Data.”

1.2 A Note About Personal Data
In brief, “personal data” refers to any data or information that can identify you or is related to you, or that fits the description provided below. When we mention “personal data” in this Privacy Policy, we are referring to any information or data that identifies, pertains to, describes, or could reasonably be associated with, or linked directly or indirectly to, an individual or household.

2.1 Personal Information

  • Educators, Teachers/Professors, Schools: Name, email address, school affiliation, and other identifying details such as courses taught, grade levels taught, coursework and assignments.
  • Account Information: Username, password, and profile information.
  • Information Obtained During Use of Services: Including any videos, images, documents, files, or other information you choose to provide.
  • Payment Information: Billing details, if applicable.


2.2 Non-Personal Information

  • Usage Data: Information about how you interact with our Services, including IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, and time spent on our platform.
  • Technical Data: Data from cookies and similar technologies used to improve user experience. Essay Eye LLC (and third party providers) may automatically gather specific information about your interactions with our Service, including log files and analytics data. This may include information processed form third party providers from time to time in the use of certain Services.


2.3 Essay Data

  • Content Submission: Essays and other written content submitted for evaluation and grading.


2.4 Student Data

  • We collect study topics, assignments (e.g., homework), essays, and grades.
  • We collect, use, maintain, and share Student Data solely for legitimate educational purposes.
  • We do not use or disclose Student Data for any targeted advertising purposes.
  • We do not create personal profiles of students unless it is necessary for educational purposes.
  • Our comprehensive data security program is designed to safeguard the types of Student Data managed by the Service and to always be in compliance with “FERPA”, “SOPIPA”, and other regulatory commissions.
  • We are committed to clearly and transparently communicating our data policies and practices to our users.
  • We will never sell Student Data, except in the case of a corporate transaction such as a merger, acquisition, bankruptcy, or other sale of assets. In such cases, the new owner will be required to continue honoring the terms provided in this Privacy Notice, or we will notify the School and offer an opportunity to opt out of the transfer of Student Data by deleting it before the transfer takes place.

We use the information we collect for various purposes, including to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain our Services.
  • Evaluate and grade student essays.
  • Communicate with users, including sending notifications and responding to inquiries.
  • Improve and personalize our Services.

  • Ensure compliance with legal obligations and policies.
  • Analyze usage patterns and improve user experience.
  • To market and advertise to educators and schools.
  • Tailor and improve our Service to better meet the needs and preferences of our users and others with whom we interact.

  • Safeguard the safety, security, and integrity of our Service, technological infrastructure, other assets, and our business.

  • Interaction with Your School: If you access our Service through your school, we may share your information with the school as needed for educational purposes.
  • Community Participation: If you engage in any of our online communities, we may share your public profile information and any other details you choose to make public with other community members.
  • Customer Communication: We may share personal data with third-party providers who assist us in customer service and communication tasks, such as handling inquiries and facilitating communications.

  • We collaborate with our marketing partners to share non-Student Data for the purpose of informing individuals about the services we offer.


4.3 Student Data

  • We collect, store, use, and share Student Data solely for educational purposes.
  • Student Data is never used or disclosed for targeted advertising. We do not create personal profiles of Students except when it serves an educational purpose.
  • To protect the Student Data managed by our Service, we have implemented a comprehensive data security program. More details on our security practices can be found in the Security section below.
  • We are committed to transparency in our data policies and practices, ensuring they are clearly communicated to our users.
  • We will never sell Student Data unless it is part of a corporate transaction, such as a merger, acquisition, bankruptcy, or sale of assets. In such cases, we will ensure that the new owner continues to adhere to the terms outlined in this Privacy Notice or, alternatively, we will notify the School and provide an opportunity to opt-out of the transfer by deleting the Student Data before the transaction is finalized.
  • We will not make significant changes to our Privacy Notice or contractual agreements related to the collection or use of Student Data without first notifying the School and offering a choice before using the Student Data in any manner substantially different from what was originally disclosed.
  • We share Student Data only when necessary to deliver our Service.
  • We also share Student Data with trusted service providers who require access to perform services on our behalf, ensuring they adhere to appropriate contractual protections. A current list of these service providers is available upon request.
  • Additionally, we may disclose Student Data in connection with business transactions or to uphold our legal rights and obligations, as further detailed in the “Our Disclosure of Personal Data” section of this Privacy Notice.
  • We will not knowingly retain Student Data beyond a reasonable time period to support educational purposes.


4.4  “De-Identified” Data

  • We may create, use, and share de-identified information for purposes such as adaptive learning, personalized student learning, content recommendations related to educational or employment objectives, and to enhance and develop our Service. Additionally, this de-identified information may be utilized to improve other educational platforms, services, applications, or technologies, as allowed by law. “De-identified information” refers to data from which all personal identifiers have been removed, ensuring it cannot reasonably be used to identify an individual.

We implement robust security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no online service can be completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Our strong security program consists of policies and controls designed to protect personal data from both known and potential threats. Our security measures encompass encryption, firewalls, role-based access controls, and other protective technologies. Access to personal data is strictly limited to individuals with a legitimate need to know, and we enforce a disciplinary process for any breaches of our security policies.
For Schools that designate a specific point of contact for security incidents, Essay Eye LLC has established a protocol for responding to breaches involving Student Data. Should there be any unauthorized access, destruction, use, modification, or disclosure of Student Data, we will promptly notify the designated contact at the School via email or other direct communication methods as outlined in our breach response protocol.

SECTION 6. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.   • Withdraw Consent: If we process your information based on your consent, you have the right to withhold or withdraw that consent at any time.

  • Account Settings and Data Sharing: You can update your account details and adjust your account controls or data-sharing settings by visiting your “Account” page, uninstalling our browser extension through your web browser’s “settings” or “tools” menu, or contacting us at essayeye.com.

  • Communication Preferences: To stop receiving promotional emails from us, click the “unsubscribe” link in any of those emails. We make every effort to process your unsubscribe requests promptly. However, please note that service-related communications (e.g., account verification, transactional updates, feature changes, technical and security notices) may not have the option to be restricted .
  • Modifying or Deleting Information: If you have questions about updating your information or wish to remove your name or comments from our Service or public content, you can reach out to us at essayeye.com. Please note that we may not be able to modify or delete your information in every case.
